At Hudson Valley Seed Co.
11 Airport Road, Accord
Honor a departed loved one through the transformative power of art. Join us for a communal mask-making workshop, where we'll create meaningful tributes in a wearable mask form. Bring small keepsakes, objects and/or photo printouts that can be cut and glued to leather (or wood pulp) base forms. We'll have dried flowers and seeds from the Hudson Valley Seed Company to add to your mask. All participants will take home an art pack of our Everlasting Flower Mix.
Led by local artist and art therapy practitioner Melissa Hewitt, this workshop offers a healing space of gratitude and reflection.
Create a lasting heirloom to cherish or use for Halloween or HALLOWED, a special event celebrating our beloved departed on November 2nd at Widow Jane Mine.
Example: Melissa's mask for her grandmother, Nonna Margherita, incorporates photos, personal items like needle and thread, thimble, knitting, buttons, and fabric from her Nonna's belongings.
$40 pp. Limited spaces available.
Melissa Hewitt is committed to a life of creativity. She realizes that in finding and trusting her voice artistically she ignites others to find their own voice.
Coming from a long line of printers and creatives, Melissa grew up in a family print shop and later studied papermaking and printmaking. Melissa went to school for fine art, traveled and studied traditional crafts, mask and costume making, and fiber arts from different cultures—and found that many of these traditions were in danger of being lost. These skills have empowered, healed and supported our human ancestors since pre-history and she feels it is her mission to help preserve this wisdom and remind others of the healing power they hold right in their own creative hands.
