Join us for our in-person class and create a beautiful macramé plant hanger with educator and fiber artist Poliana Dănilă and our supporting Circle Creative team. In this fun hands-on project, she will teach the art of knotting and you’ll leave with a final piece to can take at home. Any adult and most older children at varying skill levels can accomplish the tasks, and feel the satisfaction of finishing the project before the end of the workshop. You will learn hands-on skills and some history about this tradition. This class is open to families and is recommended for ages 12 and up. Learn to create your own plant hanger, and then later, apply the technique of making these traditional knots to other projects in your home!
“While idle at sea, sailors made macramé objects which they bartered or sold when they landed at new ports, including hammocks, belts and covers for knife handles and bottles. These designs spread to China and the “New World” of the Americas. Basic knots are known as the reef or the square knot and were made in hemp, leather, and cotton twine or yarn…” To read more about macrame and a previous we held at Mohonk Mountain House CLICK HERE.
